Mich. Chihuahua caught up in wind gust

Tinker Bell had a bad day Saturday.

The Michigan Chihuahua was blown away by 70 mph winds at a flea market.

Here's the story from the Detroit News.

Just in case you didn't think the story was already strange enough, the owner's name is Dorothy (no tornado jokes, please) and a psychic told her where she could find the dog.

Chihuahua movie not a dog?

I saw a trailer for "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" while I was on vacation last summer.

It looked like it might be good for a laugh, or at least to see how complicated the CGI effects are getting all those dogs to dance and strut and talk.

Here's a review from Reuters.

The reviewer wishes that the script matched the cast.
It would have given that inspired voice cast more to chew on, though [Drew] Barrymore, [Andy] Garcia (more animated than he has been in years), [George] Lopez, Placido Domingo[!], Luis Guzman, Cheech Marin, Paul Rodriguez and a menacing Edward James Olmos in Doberman form (as Delgado's arch-nemesis, El Diablo) do nicely with what they're fed.
And what would that be? I'll bet it's not kibble.

Still, I'll wait until it's at the $2 movie.

UPDATE: What would we do without Youtube? Here's a trailer for the film.

And then here's the official Disney Web site with another trailer.

Teeny tiny doggies

Teacup Chihuahuas.

Who would have thought that these cute, little dogs are the same species as a Great Dane.

Is that you, Paris?

Here's a real cute dog, all dolled up for the 13th annual Artists' Soap Box Derby in Kingston today.

The Chihuahua is named Missy and she is 3 years and 5 months. (The 5 months is very important at that age.) She is being held by her owner, Frank Morgan of Ft. Pierce, Fla., a former Kingston resident who frequently visits his old stomping grounds.

Morgan said Missy is a therapy dog. But obviously she has a second income to afford clothes like that.

My colleague Kathy McLaughlin snapped the picture.

Happy anniversary, big mouth

On this date in 1975, Jaws hit the theaters scaring the bejeezus out of millions. My friend Brenda and I sat through two consecutive screenings of it. The second time didn't get any less scary.

And the theme is instantly recognizable, used here effectively to showcase this brutal beast. Oh, the humanity.

In case you missed it, one of the prize-winning home-made boats in the New Paltz (N.Y.) Regatta a couple of weeks ago paid homage to the Spielberg movie.

Check out this picture I took. Click on it to embiggen for a better look.
