Wappinger offers reduced price rabies shot Saturday

WAPPINGERS FALLS — A rabies clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wappinger town hall, 20 Middlebush Road.

The rain-or-shine event will give residents the opportunity to vaccinate their dogs and cats at a reduced cost.

Please make sure your animal is either on a leash or in a carrier.

The rabies shot is $10 per vaccination. Owners must provide a current rabies certificate. Otherwise, only a one-year immunization will be administered.

Town residents can also license their dogs at the clinic.

Microchipping will be available for $25.

Town Clerk Chris Masterson said owners will be able to get their dogs vaccinated for about one-quarter the local average cost and one-half the cost of the microchip.

Another dog park possible in Dutchess County

Good news for the Town of Wappinger.

Councilman Vincent Bettina has proposed establishing a dog park in Castle Point Park. The town board recently passed a resolution that would enable the town planner to study the feasibility of a park there.

“There is a nice fenced in area that wouldn’t require much modification,” Bettina said. “It would be good to have a place where people can go and enjoy being with their pets.”

This would be the second park in Dutchess County, the first being in the Town of Fishkill.

LaGrange town officials are open to the idea of a dog park operating on town land adjoining the highway garage on Stringham Road, but they want to see if there is enough community support first.

The town is willing to fund most of the construction through the recreation fees, but want to $16,000 from residents toward the estimated cost of the fence.

The dog park in Fishkill is paid for completely by the town, though Supervisor Joan Pagones said a fee for non-residents is being considered.

Rabies clinic in Wappinger Sunday

You can get your dog or cat vaccinated for rabies in the Town of Wappinger — that's in Dutchess County, New York — April 15.

The Sunday event will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Schlathaus Park, which is at the intersection of Myers Corners and All Angels Hill roads.

Dogs and cats can receive the shot for $10 per vaccination. Proof of most recent rabies certification is required. Without it, only a one-year immunization will be given.

Town residents can license their dogs at the clinic also. The cost of a license for a spayed or neutered dog is $4.50; $2.50 for senior citizens.

Microchipping will also be available at the clinic. A limited number of microchips will be available for $25. The fee includes the cost of the chip and registration.

Safety first, so cats must be in a carrier, and dogs must be leashed.
