In an article in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, medical researchers compared 4,435 adults in the U.S. They found that people who didn't own a cat had a 40 percent higher risk of dying from heart disease.
"Our best guess would be that having a pet provides some amelioration against stress and anxiety, and we're seeing a benefit related to that," said Dr. Adnan Qureshi, a University of Minnesota neurologist and executive director of the Minnesota Stroke Initiative. There was no protective relationship for dog owners, the study found. However, Qureshi said that could be because of the limitation of the data.
I say keep studying.

Interesting. The thing is: cats are ALWAYS napping, if not flat out asleep. & they always choose the most comfortable spots, & they look very peaceful & picturesque. Specifically for heart disease, this has got to be aimed perfectly.
