Neither, I always end up killing them.
Fish are a way out for parents with children begging for a dog.
"Sweetie, I know that puppy is adorable, but why don't we start by getting some fish and seeing if we can keep them alive."
Of course, the fish dies. And the parent is off the hook. Brillant!
